Justin Sidney was born in Manchester,UK (1974) and spent his formative years in rural Cheshire. His art career began unconventionally after a work injury allowed him to reassess where his strengths lay. After a short course in Art and Design and a sabbatical of sorts in The Netherlands, his largely self-taught intuitive painting style was recognised as accomplished enough to command solo exhibitions both in Amsterdam and London (Andipa Gallery Knightsbridge). His main influences are the Abstract Expressionists for their energy and understanding of the emotional response to colour and composition, as well as Gerhart Richter for his scale and experimental workings. In his work, Sidney explores what he regards as Society’s disconnection from the reality of life. Sidney’s work can be found in both public and private collections in the UK and The Netherlands. He lives and works in Scotland where he recently relocated to from London.
